About this deal

This book has various examples of onomatopoeia and vocabulary which could extend the narrative writing of young students and provides links to 1960s history and brief information about space. However, while Ruth is the real protagonist and hero (she helps Spaceboy and immediately understands why the rockets crash), it's Spaceboy who is in the title and on the cover. Lots of toilet humour, bottoms, trumps etc which Walliams relies on for humour over smart dialogue or a clever plot, quite the opposite to his hero Roald Dahl's approach. Still, the story did have heart and my son enjoyed my dramatic reading even if it was all a bit tiresome for me. His tenth novel, BAD DAD, was an immediate number one, following the triumph of THE MIDNIGHT GANG, the biggest-selling children’s book of 2016. However, when the soldier announces that they are flying to meet the President, the situation seems to be getting out of control. I loved getting to read about the space race and have a different kind of supporting cast such as the sheriff and the President of the United States. As always, Walliams’ text, in combination with illustrations by Adam Stower, is both heartwarming and hilarious, perfect reading material for readers of eight years and older. The different fonts and sizes and sound effects are such a pain to read aloud and let's be honest are little more than padding. The humor is juxtaposed against themes of loneliness and rejection, creating a comedy with empathy and soul. Until one night, Ruth creeps out of bed in the attic room of her rickety old farmhouse to watch the stars – and is just dozing off when she spots something blazing across the sky. As much as they try to escape (riding ostriches, rolling in giant transparent balls, running in the desert, or sliding in craters), Ruth, Spaceboy, and Yuri end up in a top-secret US military base, caught by the faceless figures who happen to be soldiers in special costumes.

Biography: David Walliams is a literary phenomenon whose books have sold more than 50 million copies worldwide and have been translated into fifty-five languages.

They try to grab Ruth, Kevin, and Yuri, but the children decide that it is not worth staying on Planet Earth. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook).

It introduces us to a daredevil girl who is a science nerd and not afraid to stand up for herself or her friends. Lots of illustrations, plenty of silliness, and a great layout will appeal even to reluctant readers. I enjoyed the spaceboy my favourite bit was when Ruth sed to ant Dorothy don,t be a dork and the best bit was when they where in the space ship and Kevin sed the countdown and it was very funny when Yuri the dog bit Kevin,s Grampa in the bum and another funny bit when the president of USA hit the golf ball at the major majors back of his head and then hi was nocked out and then fell on all his batches on the floor then it was funny when I saw the president hi was ferry little The president and then there was a slave who was as taller then the president. I loved the writing, the story, the characters, and the illustrations and that is why I can easily see this book becoming a fast favourite with young readers.
