About this deal

In September 2018, Lindeblad was diagnosed with ALS, which in various ways affected his continued lecturing activities. Whatever your views on who or what God is, there are some people who keep close company with it or them.

They accept themselves and each other, they learn humility, and to trust that if they make room for miracles, they come.

He states he does think before talk, that he know exactly what he's saying; even when he says something some people consider controversial or outrageous, he have thougth about it before he said it. Björn Natthiko Lindeblad (1961-2022) was a Swedish public speaker, meditation teacher and former Buddhist monk. We’re living in a world where everybody wants to be right, and it has led to divisive conflicts that has detrimentally impacted life for many people. I can still choose whatever I want to eat within the boundaries of my chosen diet, and I can eat a large and varied meal if I choose to omad (one meal a day).

It's a bit of organized chaos, more rambling than actual train of thought from start to finish, but still valuable information. What he did was go on tour and talk, without notes, about his life and his beliefs and his practice. I made lots of highlights throughout this book - sentences and paragraphs that I want to go back to, to re-read and think more deeply about.Goodness me, in a book about mindfulness, compassion, and the life of a forest monk, surely they could have found a better simile than that.

As a perfectionist who felt trapped by his obsessive thoughts, he left mainstream society to pursue monastery life. Björn Natthiko Lindeblad, a former forest monk in Thailand, relates his experience of training to properly direct his thoughts which can benefit all. But there’s one really clumsy simile in the book, when Björn is talking about his health problems and how he ‘fell asleep like a clubbed seal’. That even the Buddha said that it is important to investigate our experiences, not to believe him wholesale. Also, in the prologue he announces that he is in Death's waiting room earlier than [he] would have wished. Björn moves between monasteries throughout his life as a monk and it was interesting to see how they were all so different. I can tell a good book by who I want to give it to next, and a REALLY good book by how long I'm going to hang on to it before I do so. We start citing lines from books on why we are right, and we want to be right at the expense of people’s lives.

That was one of the reasons we didn’t handle money, weren’t allowed to choose when or what we ate, who we lived with or which hut we slept in. We like to think we understand what's happening around us; that we can determine the path our life takes. In a largely materialist society, it is important to know that are alternatives to our mainstream way of living, which is to control, conquer, acquire, consume – almost always a more of everything. This book was written soon after his retirement from the NBA, so sports are still pretty fresh on his mind.
