About this deal

The Fairview comes with a lightweight peripheral frame which keeps the shape of the pack and helps distribute the weight of your gear into the hip belt when you are wearing it. My Farpoint has been my trusty companion for years, and it’s held up incredibly well, even with daily use for my work commute. The Fairview is available in three sizes – 40L, 55L or 70L to suit different trip durations and packing requirements. If you are hoping to hop on a plane with no grief from TSA agents, this might not be the pack for you.

I can live without pockets, less space or anything, but when I carried the bag a lot, it started to hurt after a few months. The included rucksack harness system makes it far more versatile than your average wheeled suitcase.

The new Osprey Farpoint 55 has reduced the size of the main pack now making it fully carry-on compliant. I bought this bag based on multiple recommendations for “being one of the best” for long term travel (and your review was definitely a big part of my decision to purchase). However, the Farpoint/Fairview packs have all the essential features and are very durable and reliable.

I see what I suspect is the new version on the European site – does this seem to be the new carry-on compliant version at https://www. Despite minimal weights, these women's specific, full-featured packs adopt serious backpacking features from our more technical packs—like fine-tunable torso adjustments, load-lifting LightWire frames and breathable harnesses/ hipbelts—blended with practical travel functionality. There are a few drawbacks and some ambiguities that come with the size and lack of organization, which I will mention in the cons section – but there’s no doubt that the Osprey Fairview 55 packs very well and weighs very little. Before I zipper up the straps, I sometimes tuck in a hoodie or jacket that I usually have hanging in the front and zipper it up along with the straps. The only issue I’ve experienced is that the hip belt is a little above my hip bone, though it’s not as obvious as with other brands I’ve tried. Unlike with the Farpoint 55, they are not designed to work perfectly together, but you can still clip the daypack into the shoulder straps of the Farpoint 40 or tuck it behind the load straps on the back. I keep them together, however, and have another small backpack for my carry-on that holds my electronics and various stuff I want on the plane.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. There are also small gear loops scattered around the exterior of the bag, but considering how dangly it is already, we don't feel like we want to add to that, so they tend to go unused. The Osprey Fairview 55 backpack has a lot of great things going for it but after a year of travelling, I do not think it’s the right backpack for me.There’s the small construction of the 40L, making transport and storage a breeze with the additional benefit of a removable 13L daypack perfect for trips away from the hotel or hostel.
