Her situation is very different to Anna’s, she is young, she works as a cleaner in the very hospital she is about to give birth in, her boyfriend is a student who drives a clapped out car and money is very tight.

I knew what Hope had done was so wrong and on many levels evil, but I also couldn’t help feeling sorry for her. Hope gave her whole self to Minnie, but she never had the material comfort that living with her biological parents would have given her. To what extent do their actions, when stripped away of emotion, make you question these character profiles? Because of You feels like it ought not to be a book but to be rushed, but the reality is it is a book that is almost impossible not to race through. Maybe not great literature, I realize many following the Women's Prize have not liked it, but I was totally captivated by the audiobook and in the end thoroughly enjoyed it.
